Commit to a better career

Since joining Competa IT, I've had the chance to work on several projects with KLM, which has been an exciting ride. I also took on the role of internal Tech Lead, sharing my experiences and insights with colleagues and new team members. I’ve been hooked on programming since middle school and jumped into web development in 2012. With a solid computer science background, I focus on core software development principles, no matter which JavaScript framework is trending. My ultimate goal is to help developers master clean, bug-free, well-tested, and scalable code that genuinely serves the end-user.

I’ve been with Competa IT for 3 years, and honestly, those have been the best years of my career. It was here that I began to unlock my full potential as a developer. Working on projects for some of the largest companies in the Netherlands has been incredibly rewarding, providing the ideal environment for me to develop my skills. Beyond the code, the company’s meetups provided me with a unique opportunity to step up as a public speaker, something I never imagined I’d do. Thank you, Competa IT. I will miss you!

As an expat, Competa IT has provided me with access to the Dutch tech market, and that has made settling in the Netherlands much easier than I expected. The company strikes a perfect balance between being international and down-to-earth, making it easy to fit in and grow. Their focus on quality tech and a deep understanding of the Dutch IT market enable me to do what I love while learning something new every day. And let’s be real - when you're new to a country, finding a place that doesn’t make you miss home too much is priceless.

It’s been almost six years since I started at Competa as an intern who didn’t even know what Git was. Since then Competa has helped me build a solid all-round foundation for the rest of my career. I’ve done front-end, back-end, data engineering and a bit of dev-ops. If you want to learn something here, you will definitely get the opportunity to do so. Now that I’ve got all of the basics down I’ve been specialising in the techniques that I’ve been enjoying the most. I’m sure that if I ever get bored of those there will always be the possibility to do something else here. And even though the nature of our work means being outsourced, there are tons of awesome after-work events that keep us in touch!

At 23, I’ve already worked across media, e-health, and SaaS companies, as part of Competa IT. During my five years of working here, I have had numerous opportunities to delve into various tech platforms. The projects are exciting, the teams are sharp, and the culture truly values people. What stands out most is the opportunity to learn from experienced colleagues across different teams. Whether it’s guidance on accessibility, DevOps, or clean architecture, the support is consistently available here. Competa’s culture encourages me to grow as a developer, teammate, and confident communicator.

I've been working at Competa IT for over 9 years now, and I appreciate that it's a company where quality, precision, and results matter. Building scalable solutions and focusing on solid technical practices is simply how we do things. This environment helps me maintain high standards and improve as a senior front-end developer. We choose tools not because they are new or popular, but because they actually improve our work. Every project brings fresh challenges, and there’s always something to learn. It’s a great place to grow, alongside others who share a passion for the craft.

Competa IT has played a pivotal role in my journey from junior PHP Developer to full-stack lead. Along the way, I’ve had the chance to work alongside some incredibly talented engineers at some of the biggest companies in Europe. The experience and skills I’ve gained here have been invaluable, but what I’m most grateful for is how Competa helped me realise my long-time dream of starting my own company. Without the support, mentorship, and opportunities I’ve had here, I’m not sure I’d be where I am today. Thank you, Competa, for helping me get there.
